Bite-Back at Cancer Charity Ball is the event organised by the Herrald Pearson Foundation which raises money for the two charities that are close to the heart of many divers. Sadly, a large number of us have lost close friends or family to cancer, including our dive buddies, instructors or perhaps our dive club drinking pal.
Marie Curie is one of our chosen charities, as their support is invaluable during the hard times that cancer can bring.
The second charity, Bite-Back, is an organisation dedicated to marine conservation and the protection of sharks and aims to reduce consumer demand upon threatened shark and fish species.
Charity Ball 2011
The Ball is over for another year and we can report that by all accounts it was a tremendous success. 130 excited people were treated to an Fijian inspired evening complete with bare chested warriors with war clubs, dancing girls in grass skirts and the customary Kava drink, all thanks to our main sponsor, Tourism Fiji.
The evening included a short talk by David Diley about his film “From the Office to the Ocean” which is a hearts and minds story of one man’s lifelong love affair with sharks… click for more information.
Bite-Back at Cancer would like to thank Tourism Fiji for their backing and their help in making the 2011 the most successful ever. Total funds raised will just over £19,500 which is £8,000 more than the 2010 Ball. A major feature of this years event was the Lottery for a holiday for two to Fiji proudly sponsored by Tourism Fiji, Dive Worldwide, Matava Eco Resort, Matamanoa Island Resort, Raffles Resort, Captain Cooks Cruises and Air Pacific, Fiji’s International airline.
Just under 1,000 tickets were sold and the lucky winner was Steven Malone of Basingstoke, UK. Thanks to everyone around the world that supported this event by buying Fiji Lottery tickets.
A PDF of the progamme for the evening can be viewed here.
